Authors have been revealed, and with that Last Minute Sub 2017 is officially in the books!

We can't say it enough: You guys are the ones who make exchanges worth it. Thank you so much to every participant, pinch hitter, beta, reblogger, reader, commenter, and kudos-leaver! We quite literally couldn't do it without you, and you all made this fest so successful and so much fun. <3 <3 <3

This post is open for any sort of input, ideas, comments, or suggestions y'all have about the structure of the exchange. For once, we do not have any changes we're currently thinking of or issues we're thinking of addressing, but we'll update this post if that changes. The major new rule we instituted from last year was authors who defaulted after the default deadline and were then themselves defaulted on were not sent to the pinch hit list, and from a mod perspective this worked great.

So, this post is for any aspect of the exchange that you want to talk about! We want to hear what you have to say about anything at all; it's like you're a manager that's been sent to the stands and you're sending notes to your assistant. Are they love letters, tactical changes, we want to know!

Last Minute Sub 2018 is open for reading! Go read and comment on all the wonderful fics :D

Authors, if you want to respond to comments during the anon period you absolutely can! As long as you’re signed into your AO3 account, any comment you reply to on your fic will show as “Anonymous Creator” until reveals.

As a reminder, commenting on your gift fic is now mandatory for future participation in Last Minute Sub. For a refresher on how this rule works, see here.

Also, if you notice a high number of hits right off the bat we’re thinking it’s an AO3 problem because we definitely did not check fics 10+ times, but the archive currently has no solution to this issue.

Reminder: the Default Deadline for Last Minute Sub 2018 is September 15, 11:59pm PDT. (What time is that for me?)

Sometimes, despite the best laid plans, an exchange fic just isn’t gonna get written and that’s okay. Just please let us know if you have to default by September 15th so there’s enough time to arrange for a pinch hitter. If you do need to default, you can do so by navigating to your Assignments page on AO3, or you can email the mods directly at lastminutesubmods@gmail.com.

The default deadline also means there are three weeks until assignments are due. Assignments are due by October 6th at 11:59 PM PST. (What time is that for me?)

As always, if you have questions, need a beta, etc. don’t hesitate to contact the mods. :)

What happens next?

We’ll begin the matching process through AO3. We’ve blocked off a couple days for matching and to get in touch with any participants that may be unmatchable as writers.

Assignments will be generated by AO3 and sent out no later than August 25th. Keep an eye on the email associated with your AO3 account for your assignment!

Each participant will be able to nominate:

up to 3 fandoms
up to 12 characters in each fandom

There are no eligibility requirements to meet for players or managers to be nominated.

You can only nominate the “Football RPF” fandom once. Please nominate all Football RPF players and managers under the fandom “Football RPF” rather than nominating them under a team they play for as a fandom.

The other fandom slots may be used for any related fandoms or Crossover Fandom.

For fandoms other than Football RPF, please add the fandom to the character tag you nominate.

Claude Giroux (Crossover Fandom), Olivier Giroud (Crossover Fandom)

Mods are operating on US Pacific Time (UTC -8:00) and all deadlines will be in that time zone.

Defaults: By the grace of the exchange gods, we had zero defaults this year! However, we're considering adopting a rule from Yuletide and other similar exchanges in the future. If you default on your assignment, and you are in turn defaulted on by your assigned author/artist, you will not be sent out as a pinch hit. How do you all feel about that rule? Does that seem fair?

Treats: Should fic treats have the same length requirement as assignments? Would you be open to treats that are less than 1,000 words?

We had two changes from last year: A shorter anon period, and mandatory commenting on gifts. Did the four day anon period (as opposed to a full week) feel too short, too long, just right? Do you have any strong feelings one way or the other about the comment rule?

Feel free to comment on those or other aspects of the exchange! We want to hear what you have to say about anything at all.

Matching has successfully run its course and assignments have been generated! We’ll be sending them out to you very shortly. :)

Your assignment will be sent to the email address associated with your AO3 account. It will also show up under “Assignments” on your AO3 profile. If for some reason you don’t receive the email and don’t see it on your Assignments page, please email the mods (lastminutesubmods@gmail.com) and we will troubleshoot it with you.

You can still sign up to be on the Beta Reader List or the Pinch Hitters List, whether or not you’re a participant!

If you do need to default on your assignment, we ask that you please do so by the default deadline of September 23rd so that we have adequate time to assign a pinch hitter to your recipient.

And finally: You’re always welcome to write or draw more works beyond your assignment! If something in the requests summary really catches your eye and you want to gift it to the requester, by all means, feel free! These extra gifts are referred to as “treats” in exchanges. You don’t have to be signed up for the exchange to write a treat – anyone and everyone is welcome to jump in if they want to.

Dear Artist/Author Letters are an optional part of Last Minute Sub 2017. If you want to go into more depth than the details box on the sign-up form allows (or if you just like writing letters!) you're more than welcome to write a letter, host it on Dreamwidth/LiveJournal/Tumblr/a public Google doc/etc. and link it in your sign-up.

Letters are a great way to let your assigned author/artist know about your Do Not Wants/squicks, general likes and dislikes, what you love about your specific requests, prompt ideas — anything at all, really! There's no one right way to write a letter.

This posts is here to collect letters participants have written. You aren't required to put a link to your letter here, but it does help everyone get a better idea of what people are requesting, and it might even inspire someone to offer something they hadn't considered before.

Hello everyone! We’re so excited to be back and about to get the second round of Last Minute Sub underway :D

We have two bits of business to deal with, 1. the schedule for this year 2. some small changes to the rules and how we’re doing things for this round that were discussed last year.

Rule & Other Changes

1. Changes to nominating related fandoms: When it comes to fandoms related to Football RPF, you no longer need to nominate a Football RPF character within them. For example, previously when nominating Club de Cuervos, you would be required to nominate a football player alongside characters from the show. This is no longer the case! As long as the fandom itself is related to Football RPF in some way, shape or form, it may be nominated without an accompanying Football RPF character. If you have questions about your related fandoms, please feel free to bring them to us! Any crossover fandoms will still need to have a football player/manager/etc. nominated along with them.

2. Commenting on your gifts: Going forward, commenting on gift fics will be mandatory. Non-commenters from last year will be given amnesty, but from 2017 onward, not commenting on your gift will make you ineligible to participate in future rounds of Last Minute Sub without discussing with the mods first. Commenting on gifts is good exchange etiquette in general, but our primary reason for this rule is to continue fostering more communication and connection in football fandom. Please note we aren't requiring comments to be a certain length or anything of the sort, but by signing up to participate in the exchange, you are also signing up to comment on your gift.

3. Matching will continue to be done on an AND basis.

THIS IS YOUR 48 HOUR COLLECTION OPENING WARNING

To allow time for last-minute editing and any bonus assignments that participants may still want to work on, the Last Minute Sub 2016 collection will officially open on Saturday, October 15th at 12:00 PM PDT (What time is that for me?)

As a reminder, all works will remain anonymous until creator reveals on October 19th. Please do your best to maintain the spirit of gift-giving anonymity until then!

Let us know if you have any questions, and see you on the 15th! :)

What happens next?

We have a pinch hit, an author working with an extension, and have contacted participants with outstanding submissions. If those authors do not get in contact with us by 8am PDT October 9th, they will automatically default and another batch of pinch hits will go out.

Just in case you want to join the last-minute pinch hit fun, you can still sign up for the pinch hit list!

When all the pinch hits are in, mods will give at least 48 hours of notice before the collection opens, which will be no later than 12pm PDT October 15th (what time is that for me?). You will be able to edit your fics and the collection will stay open until then for any last minute treats.

In the meantime, get excited for all of these amazing works and stay tuned for further announcements!
